Tools and Materials I Use

When it comes to pyrography, having the right tools and materials is essential. My journey with pyrography began with struggles due to inadequate tools, but everything changed when I discovered the Razertip tools. The Razertip SK and the upgraded SL1 have been game-changers for me, providing precision and control that are crucial for detailed work.

Choosing the right wood is also vital. I highly recommend basswood, both the European and American varieties. Unlike buying online, I prefer to select wood in person to feel its quality. Preparing the wood is key; I use a sanding machine followed by manual sanding with 300-grade sandpaper to achieve a smooth surface.

For image transfer, I rely on my sketching skills and the grid method, which ensures accuracy. While graphite paper can also be used, I avoid carbon paper due to its difficulty in removal and the health risks associated with burning carbon marks.

The skew tip (SK1) is my go-to for most of my work, but exploring different tips from Razertip can lead to unique results. After completing a piece, it’s important to protect it. I use Golden MATTE MSA Varnish with UVLS, applying multiple coats to safeguard the artwork from UV damage.

To ensure the longevity of your pyrography art, avoid placing it in direct sunlight, near heaters, or under powerful lights, as these can damage the work.

I am continuously developing my skills and experimenting with new techniques. The journey of exploration in pyrography is limitless. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message via WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook.
